| Presenting the latest market data to the press, EAA Secretary General Patrick de Schrynmakers underlined the necessity to re-boost the aluminium industry in Europe. The primary industry is experiencing severe difficulties with a reduction of more than 1 M t in European production since 2008. In regard to the semi fabrication level, the demand for rolled products is on the rise, driven by automotive and packaging applications. Besides, the use of extruded products in Europe is on a slightly increasing trend even though the building sector, the most important end-use segment, has not recovered from the crisis and the declining solar panel business. Aluminium is a permanent material that is part of the solution to achieving sustainability goals and innovations with aluminium are, and will continue to be, the very backbone of sustainable infrastructures and applications.
