1. Aluminium Materials Technology (AMT) These lectures deal with the metallurgy of aluminium (new lectures) and its fabrication from bauxite to semi-finished products (viz. extrusions, sheet, plate, forgings, etc), their properties and uses and give guidance for material selection. Advanced alloys, processes and theoretical process modelling are treated as subjects for special uses and for the materials specialists. 2. Aluminium Design (AD) Aluminium Design is treated from two viewpoints: Product Development
(APD) and Structural Design (ASD). Structural Design is an extensive course on a well advanced level addressing engineers responsible for design and calculation of stability and reliability of load carrying structures. This part is completely updated and expanded by the results of the TAS project and is based on the new Eurocode 9 Directive. 3. Aluminium Machining and Forming (AMF) The forming of aluminium into useful shapes by machining, casting (Continuous Casting = new lecture) and both hot and cold forming is treated in eight lecture series including a special case study on can making. The lectures address both production engineers and designers who need to understand aluminium characteristics for the choice of the best production route. 4. Aluminium Joining Technology (AJT) Joining is a key technology in many aluminium product applications. The seven lecture series provides a concise treatment of all presently used joining technologies for aluminium products. The emphasis is on understanding materials and the design aspects of joining methods. 5. Aluminium Surface Technology (AST) Surface treatment of aluminium opens a wide spectrum of new and useful properties for decorative, protective and functional purposes, the topics of surface treatments are covered in a series of introduction and advanced lectures addressing both technologists and design engineers.
