Aluminium industry and standards

There is an increasing variety of aluminium products together with increasing quality requirements. On the European market it would have been extremely difficult to communicate such a complexity of forms and requirements without aluminium standards. The European aluminium industry therefore pushed for the establishment of European Standards for aluminium.

The European Aluminium Industry is a major player in and contributor to the European and International standardisation work on the material aluminium, having recognised that:

• Great input leads to great standards

• Poor input generates poor standards

• No input ends in loss of market

The EAA Standards Committee STC set up a monitoring network based upon experts throughout the major companies.

The focus is on the standardisation of the material aluminium within the European Technical Committee CEN/TC 132, where a number of standards have been identified for revision and improvement.

The European building and construction industry standards linked to the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR), the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive EPBD and sustainable construction standards have been identified as priorities. The monitoring of these standards is secured by the EAA Building Group.

On international level, harmonisation on the material aluminium is discussed within the Technical Committee ISO/TC 79.
