Standards for aluminium building products
The Construction Products Regulation - CPR (EU 305/2011) will enter into complete force from the 1st of July 2013 and will replace the Construction Products Directive - CPD (106/89 EEC). Like the former CPD, the CPR is a common language to declare the performance of construction products accross the European Union and it sets the rules for affixing the CE-mark on those products. Harmonised standards (hENs) are being developed by the European standardisation bodies on the basis of requests issued by European Commission after having consulted the Standing Committee on Construction that includes representatives from Member States and the EU construction sector. The EC assesses the conformity of hENs produced by the standardisation bodies with the relevant mandates and regularly updates the list of hENs with the ones which are approved, by publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). After the publication of the hENs in the OJEU a coexistence period is fixed to give the necessary adaptation time to manufacturers.

The fulfilment of these product standards gives the presumption of conformity with the CPD or CPR and allows manufacturers to affix the CE mark on their products if appropriate.
As obligations for manufacturers are changing on 1st of July 2013, the European Aluminium Association (EAA), in cooperation with the Federation of European Window and Curtain Walling Manufacturers (FAECF), developed a short guideline to assist this transition. This document can be downloaded from the Publications section.
