Since the Wright Brothers decided to put an aluminium engine in their first plane, which flew in 1903, the rapid adoption and major role of aluminium has made possible the phenomenal growth of the aerospace industries. Today aluminium accounts for approximately 80 percent of the structural weight of modern airplanes.
